Free

May 22 | Friday | 6:30 – 8 p.m. | Free Program for All Ages

Please join us for an observation of Florida’s Emancipation Day with special guest and local artist Charles Eady. 🖼️
The Florida Emancipation Day event will focus on the issue of slavery in both Spanish-held and early US Territorial Florida and how it shaped relations and treaty negotiations between Seminoles and the US Government. It will also cover why Florida’s Emancipation Day is observed on May 23 instead of the Federal Juneteenth holiday on June 19. Highlighting the event will be Charles Eady unveiling an original painting of black Seminole interpreter Abraham.
